Fayiaz Chunara
Head, Communications & Marketing, Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA)
Fayiaz Chunara is a resourceful and results-producing Communications Strategist with over 13 years of multiple award-winning experiences in the arts industry including museums and galleries. He combines an in-depth understanding of the arts and cultural sector with a track record of success steering marketing and communications projects that deliver tangible results in community stewardship and business growth. He has a demonstrated ability to convey key messages and establish public buy-in. An articulate and persuasive presenter and negotiator, he builds strong partnerships and working relationships with inter-agency stakeholders, clients and key decision makers. Collaborative, results-oriented team player and leader, Fayiaz effectively manages multiple priorities while staying focused on budgets, goals and deadlines, consistently delivering top quality results.
His volunteer activities include being the Chairman, Board of Directors, for the South Asian Visual Arts Centre (SAVAC), and working on the Strategic Communications plan for the Aga Khan Museum of Islamic Art and Culture, due to open in Toronto in 2013. In 2011, he was one of a select few individuals chosen to complete ‘Museum Leaders: The Next Generation (NEXTGEN): Canada’, a program of The Getty Leadership Institute, Claremont Graduate University, Los Angeles, CA.
Fayiaz holds a BFA Visual Arts (UofL), a Diploma in Art History (UBC), and an Advanced Diploma, Applied Museum Studies (Algonquin). He is currently completing a MBA in Executive Management, Management Consulting, at Royal Roads University, and is concurrently working towards his Certified Management Consulting (CMC) and Project Management Professional (PMP) designations.
