Kelly McKinley
Executive Director, Education and Public Programming, Art Gallery of Ontario
Kelly McKinley is the Richard and Elizabeth Currie Executive Director, Education and Public Programming at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Canada. Kelly has worked in public programming at the AGO in various capacities over the past 15 years. From 1993-1996, she was Coordinator of Family Programs; 1996-1999 Manager, Gallery School and Family Programs; 2003-2005 Head, Education; 2005-2011 Director. A four year break in her tenure at the AGO took her to the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, California, as the Curator of Education, and to the studio of Bruce Mau Design in Toronto where she managed design projects for a number of clients including Frank Gehry and Puente de Vida, Museum of Biodiversity in Panama City, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Her museum career began as a docent at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston, Ontario, and continued with internships at the National Gallery of Canada, and Tate Gallery, London. In 1999, Ms. McKinley, together with her AGO colleague David Wistow, published the best selling children’s book on Canadian art entitled “Meet the Group of Seven” (KidsCan Press, Toronto, 1999). Kelly received her master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, and Bachelor of Arts in Art History and French from Queen’s University, Kingston. She currently lives in Toronto with her husband and 2 children.
